By standardizing electronic medical record platforms across the system to allow providers to access a single patient record, Baylor Scott & White is drastically improving the quality of care we provide to our patients. Advancements in health information technology, including the electronic medical record, health information exchange networks and online patient portals, are making important data more accessible to patients and providers. This progress also creates a secure method to share, unify and normalize data so that providers may be able to improve delivery of care and makes it possible to implement population health strategies, such as the Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance in [Part 8] A New Model of Care.
One of the latest developments of health information technology at Baylor Scott & White is the availability of online patient portals for patients to access their medical record at home or on a mobile device. These secure portals, called MyChart in our Central division and FollowMyHealth in our North division, allow patients to request appointments, receive reminders, view laboratory results, communicate directly with their doctors and request prescription refills. Making patient’s personal medical record available at their fingertips allows people to manage their health with more ease and convenience.
